Where Baseball Patches Go, and What That Changes

Cap front panel
The most common baseball patch. It sits on a curved panel and rarely goes through the wash, so a sew-on backing gives a permanent, flat finish with nothing to re-press. Jersey sleeve or chest
Jerseys get washed after every game, which is the deciding factor for the backing. An iron-on backing gets a team set applied quickly with a household iron, and a few stitches around the edge keep it secure through a season of laundry. A sew-on backing skips the adhesive and goes straight to permanent.

Equipment bags and backpacks
Bags take abuse and often outlast a single roster. A Velcro (hook-and-loop) backing lets you move the team patch between bags or swap in a new season's version; each patch ships with a matching loop piece that can be sewn onto the bag.

Commemorative and tournament patches
Championship, all-star, anniversary, and memorial patches are usually a small sleeve patch added to an existing uniform. These are where metallic gold or silver thread and a hot-cut custom shape earn their small surcharge, because the patch is the whole point.
Sizing a Baseball Patch
We price patches by their average size: measure the height and width of the finished patch, add them together, divide by two, and round up to the nearest half inch. A 2-inch by 4-inch rocker-style sleeve patch is a 3-inch patch for pricing. Measure the actual space on the cap panel or sleeve before you decide, and use the patch size calculator to check the number.
Size also sets how much detail the patch can hold. A team name and a mascot embroider cleanly at cap size, but a roster year, a sponsor line, or a small "est." date needs either a larger patch or a woven patch , which uses finer thread and reproduces small text more sharply. We can make patches under 2 inches and up to 15 inches; below about 2 inches, plan on a simple logo with little or no text.

Border, Thread, and Patch Type
- Border. A merrowed border is the classic stitched edge on round and shield-shaped team logos and is included at no charge. A hot-cut border follows a custom outline, so a bat, ball, or mascot silhouette keeps its shape; it adds a small per-patch charge and is the border we recommend with iron-on backing. - Thread colors. Up to seven thread colors are included, which covers nearly every team palette. Additional colors, metallic gold or silver, and neon threads are priced per patch on the patch options page. Send us your team's color codes if you have them, and we will match from our thread charts on the free proof.
- Patch type. Embroidered is the standard for caps and jerseys and the most affordable. Choose woven for small text or fine line work, printed for photographic or gradient artwork, and PVC for a weather-resistant rubber patch on bags and outdoor gear (PVC orders start at 50 pieces). What a Baseball Team Order Costs
Prices come straight from our current pricing tables and depend on the patch's average size and the quantity tier. Two typical baseball line items at today's prices:

Embroidery coverage (how much of the twill background the stitching fills) moves the price between the minimal, moderate, and full tables. Questions Baseball Buyers Ask Before Ordering
Can I order cap patches and jersey patches together?
Yes. Each size is priced from its own row of the pricing table, so a 3-inch cap patch and a 4-inch jersey patch are quoted as two line items even when the artwork is the same. List both quantities on the quote form, or in its comments, and we will price them together on one proof.
What is the minimum for a team order?
Ten patches for embroidered, woven, printed, and name patches; fifty for PVC. A single roster usually clears the minimum, and the per-patch price drops at each quantity tier, so ordering spares for mid-season additions is often cheaper than a second small order.
We only have a photo of last year's cap. Is that enough artwork?
Yes. Send whatever you have: a photo, a scan, a sketch, or a vector file. Our designers redraw it, and you approve a free digital proof before anything is made. Revisions are free until the proof is right.
How long will an iron-on patch last on a jersey?
Applied correctly, the heat-seal backing holds for about 20 to 30 wash cycles. For a jersey that is washed after every game, stitch around the edge after ironing to keep it secure through repeated washing.
When do we need to order to have patches for opening day?
